The Mega Update

Posted in Life, Misc., Technology tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 4:45 pm by cameronfield

So I know it’s been forever (almost a month, but who’s counting [apparently everyone actually]), so I apologize guys. Here we go…

Here’s what I promised:
The end of programming
The awesomeness of Florida
New happenings at HEB
How awesome that movie Wall E looks (everyone, shut up)
Some upgrades to my car (uh oh)
And last but definitely not least, an amazing girl

And here’s what I deliver:
The End of Programming
So I started programming at my other job a few months ago. At first it wasn’t so bad, but then it started to get old - really fast. I kept at it trying to learn as much as possible, but finally I realized it wasn’t for me and stopped doing it. Now at that job I’m doing mostly tech support/IT/server stuff. It was for the better fa’sho.

The Awesomeness of Florida
Florida was amazing. 7 days, in Daytona, with my 4 best friends. We had the times of our lives. We did everything from be lazy on the beach (this took up about 90% of the trip), to watching movies, walking around town aimlessly, hanging out with girls (holla), taking pictures, buying dumb souvenirs, etc. etc. etc. It was a blast, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. This has to do with the amazing girl also, but I’ll explain that later…

New Happenings at HEB
So I was barely getting any hours at HEB (and I really didn’t like my boss in Healthy Living), so I trained to be a checker. I still work in Healthy Living, but only like 1 or 2 shifts a week. Now I check mostly, and I LOVE it so far. There are these things called IPMs (items per minute), and your goal is 24. Well everyone I’ve talked to has told me that it takes about a month to get to 24. Well….after 1 week of checking (39.5 hours to be exact), I’m at 30.3 IPMs. I’m 7th fastest out of almost 100 checkers. I’m pretty proud, as I’m sure you can tell. Anyways, to say the least, I really enjoy checking. It’s good to be in both departments because now it’s super easy to get 40 hours. So that’s that.

How Awesome that Movie Wall-E Looks IS
Here’s a quick synopsis of Wall-E:
“In the distant future, a small waste collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.”

Here’s a more in depth summary if you’re interested:
“In a distant, but not so unrealistic future, where mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the corrupt and powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation, WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up the mess. Mesmerized with trinkets of earth’s history and show tunes, WALL-E is alone on Earth except for a sprightly pet cockroach. One day, Eve, a sleek (and dangerous) reconnaissance robot, is sent to earth to find proof that life is once again sustainable. WALL-E falls in love with Eve. WALL-E rescues Eve from a dust storm and shows her a living plant he found amongst the rubble. Consistent with her “directive” Eve takes the plant and automatically enters a deactivated state except for a blinking green beacon. WALL-E, doesn’t understand what has happened to his new friend, but true to his love, he protects her from wind, rain, and lightening, even as she is unresponsive. One day a massive ship comes to reclaim Eve, but WALL-E, out of love or loneliness hitches a ride on the outside of the ship to rescue Eve. The ship arrives back at a large space cruise ship, which is carrying all of the humans who evacuated earth 700 years earlier. The people of earth ride around this space resort on hovering chairs which give them a constant feed of TV and video chatting. They drink all of their meals through a straw out of laziness and are all so fat that they can barely move. When Buy N Large tries to prevent the people of earth from returning, by stealing the plant, WALL-E, Eve, the portly captain, and a band of broken robots stage a mutiny.”

Wall-E is one of the best, most heart-warming movies I’ve seen in such a long time. Pixar never ceases to amaze me with their skills in making an animated movie tug at the viewers heart strings. What amazes me the most is how throughout the entire movie, there is literally NO dialogue between the 2 main characters (Wall-E and Eve). One of the things I loved the most was how the movie was very political, while at the same time making fun of the United States. At one point there’s a clip of a president during the movie, and he uses the phrase “Stay the course”. I found this ironic considering Bush’s slogan throughout the entire Iraq campaign has been “stay the course”. Also, humanity is portrayed as fat and lazy, which is also ironic since we are becoming more and more dependent on things other than ourselves to get tasks done.

I dont want to ruin the movie for anyone, but let’s just say that it has a very happy ending.

P.S.
I’m going to see it again tonight with my parents and Joanna, so be jealous.

Upgrades to My Car
So since I got my car I’ve done quite a lot to it. Let’s take a quick look:
- New Pioneer deck with iPod support
- Wired my two 12″ subs
- Custom exhaust
- K&N Air Filter
- New wheels/hub caps
- New floor mats (coming soon)
- Keyless entry (courtesy of Best Buy)

So in other words, it rocks. Oh yeah, the other day I took  a trip from College Station to Conroe and calculated my gas mileage: 40.2 MPG. Needless to say, I’m pretty happy about that.

An Amazing Girl
So I met this girl. Her name is Jen. She’s amazing, and we’re dating now. We’ve been dating for about 2 months now. She lives in Tennessee, so pretty far away. I’m going to visit her August 1st-7th with some friends. We’re going to visit each other every 2 months, so it wont be too bad. I love her, and she’s made me happier over the past 2 months than I’ve been in a while. We hung out a bunch in Florida and had an amazing time. She’s going to MTSU in Tennessee this coming semester, and plans on coming to A&M around this time next year. I’ll keep ya’ll updated on all of that though.

NEW STUFF

Movies
So lately I’ve been watching tons of movies on my computer like a madman. I’ve been obsessed with horror, but I’ve also been branching out. Here’s a list of what currently resides on my hard drive:
21
A Clockwork Orange
Battle Royale
Blade II
Blade III
Cabin Fever
Contact
Dawn of the Dead (2004 Remake)
Airplane
Funny Games
Gladiator
Hack
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Last House on the Left
Pan’s Labyrinth
Pulp Fiction
Schindler’s List
Semi Pro
Street Kings
The Descent
Tideland
Titicut Follies
Waynes World 2 (lol)
Zeitgeist

What do ya’ll suggest I watch next? Name any movies that are must-sees and I’ll add them to my collection.

Sooner
So every year in the middle of July I go to a church camp in Oklahoma called ‘Sooner’. Sooner is really unique because you can go until you’re 19 years old, aka until the summer after your freshman year of college. I really enjoyed it this year, and will definitely miss it when it comes around next year. It was really nice to see all my old friends, while at the same time growing closer to God. I was really bummed on the last night whenever we (the oldest campers) said our goodbyes and stuff, but that’s life for ya. My kids will be going to Sooner every year until they’re too old.

Phew
Well hopefully this will suffice for a while. I wont slack as much on my updates from now on. There are other things that I meant to talk about, but I forgot most of them. Stay tuned for more updates, and until then take it easy.

Success!! I’m can’t believe you’re back. The internet has been a sad boring place without your presence. Kudos on Battle Royal by the way. Japanese movies (that one in particular) rock. See Dark Knight now. That movie is amazing. I’m seeing it for the third time tomorrow morning in IMAX.
